'New Faces of Slovakian Fashion' contest is being held annually during Bratislava Fashion Week.
Milan Rastislav Stefanik was Slovakian politician, pilot, astronomer, mathematician, and many more. He played a key role in the establishment of the first independent Czecho-Slovakian state. The year 2019 has marked a century since his untimely death.
Appropriately so, his figure was chosen as a theme for this year's 'New Faces of Slovakian Fashion'.
SS20 Constellatus is a metaphor for Stefanik's life, which he had spent in the skies. He took a break from flying only to study the cosmos. Constellatus is therefore meant to be airy, flowy, and free. It portrays the messages of freedom and independence of the form through geometrical shapes and silhouettes. It represents themes comprehensible to anyone, regardless of their background.
Custom 'Constellations' print was inspired by Picasso's painting of the same name.
Except for polyester threads and invisible zippers, all garments were made using only natural materials. Majority of the fabrics were remnants, allocated for disposal. The collection also features repurposed army hats that had been turned into handbags.
